Anakin came into existence in 2010 and their mission was quite clear; to create an auditory atmosphere that captured the principal musical elements which ultimately inspired them to become musicians. Fuzzy, melodic, spaced-out, heavy and honest can all be used to describe the band’s unique sound, but it’s their ability to capture pure simplicity without devaluation that truly makes this machine operational.

The band is based in sunny San Diego, California. However, the quartet are scattered across three states. While both Brad Chancellor and Beki Andreason are located in SoCal, Jonathan Wessel resides in Kansas and Landon Cobarrubias calls Hawaii home. This cross-country setup presents a unique experience in that the band has written and recorded 10 releases to date, yet they do not put an emphasis on the tour circuit.

While it's no secret that Anakin credits bands such as blue-era Weezer, HUM, Self and the Rentals as inspiration behind their blown-out sound, they are equally quick to point to their production team in Eric Graves and Joel Wanasek as the two key components to their overall sonic experience. The sincerity has been evident since the band’s debut and they continue to walk that path to this day. In the end, this experiment known as Anakin has developed a distinct soundscape that they believe in and have stayed true to since their creation.
